Start with the dimensions

A phone photo can be 4,000 pixels wide, far more than a screen or form needs. Open Resize image, set a maximum width or height, and download. It keeps proportions and never enlarges a small original.

Then set a size limit

Open Compress image, enter the limit in KB or MB, and process the file. Read the actual output size shown. If the limit is strict, aim slightly under it, for example 900 KB for a 1 MB cap.

Pick the right format

JPG is usually smallest for photographs. PNG suits screenshots and graphics, and WebP is smaller still but not accepted everywhere. See PNG vs JPG vs WebP for how to choose.

Look at the result

Use the compare view to check faces and small text before you download. Always open the downloaded file once before attaching it.

Put it into practice.
